Arjun Menon, former Singapore national cricker player (1995 to 2000), has been approached by the African Cricket Association to coach Sierra Leone U19s in preparation for African U19 Championships which will be held in Windhoek, Namibia from 28th of August to 6th of September 2010 which will feature teams such as Botswana, Zambia, Uganda, Nigeria, Tanzania, Namibia and Kenya.

Arjun, who has previous experience as national coach of Chile and Western Australian Cricket Association and the current U16s coach accepted it immediately.

He said, “I am very proud to be able to contribute so whole heartedly to the spread of my love, cricket, especially to those who aren’t so fortunate to get access to it easily.  

Will be meeting team in training camp in Benoni in South Africa on 20th of August for pre training camp.”

A short geography/history lesson, Sierra Leone is a country situated in West Africa which is rich in mineral resources, especially diamonds. However, in recent history it had been marred by civil war that raged between 1992-1997. It now a  country that is slowly recovering.
